The Invention of Morel
    an opera by Stewart Copeland
  presented by Manchester University

Few things are more exciting for musicians than working directly with composers and world-class directors! Rehearsals are beginning now for the collegiate premiere of a new opera, “The Invention of Morel,” by Stewart Copeland, seasoned and prolific American composer of opera, ballet, film and contemporary orchestral music, founder and drummer of The Police. The Manchester University Music Department will bring both Copeland and stage director Kathleen Smith Belcher (from the Metropolitan Opera) for a residency that includes on-campus presentations, assisted by student cast members for all Manchester students, plus students from seven area high schools. By engaging surrounding communities in this event, we hope to expand awareness about opera as a vibrant, growing musical genre that is fulfilling and enjoyable for all audiences. Funds raised from this campaign will make possible our collaboration with these brilliant guest artists and will deeply enrich the cultural offerings of northeastern Indiana. The Feb. 28-29, 2020, opera performances will take place at the Honeywell Center and are part of the Manchester Symphony Orchestra’s 2019-2020 season of events.
